Day of days...
How appropriate is it that this morning, and really the whole day so far, has been kind of dark and windy. Kind of like a storm is coming.
Now, I don't need to remind anyone about what happened 6 years ago today, do I? If you are like me, the images and feelings from that day of days are forever etched into our memories. September 11, 2001 is an event that is akin to the JFK assassination and Pearl Harbor being attacked, you will always remember where you were, what you were doing, and how you felt when you heard or saw the news.
2001 was not a kind year to me.
In January, my Grandma on my mom's side passed away. Though, she was deep in the clutches of Alzheimer's disease by then, so it was seen as a release, of sorts.
In February, Dale Earnhardt, my favorite driver since I discovered NASCAR in the early 80's, died on the final lap of the Daytona 500.
In April, the store I was working at filed Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, so I was out of a job. Granted, the store did re-open in July under new ownership, but that was never a sure thing.
September. Obviously 9/11. Also, equally as devastating to me, was 9/20. My wedding anniversary. However, it is also the day when my beloved 1977 Ford Mustang II got totaled in a head-on collision. I was unhurt, physically, and no one else was in the car so that is good.
Thankfully, the rest of 2001 went by with no more catastrophes.
So on this solemn anniversary, remember those who were lost in the attacks, the rescuers who didn't make it out, and all those on the front lines defending our freedom, and enabling the freedoms of others.
